The house of dragons is based on some parts of fire and blood but that's much more of a sketch vs a complete story like with the game of thrones series. If you are going to read the books- read the a song of ice and fire series first - then either fire and blood or the dunk and egg books. Just as an edit- I wouldn’t assume you know enough
I do think something has been lost a bit here in the transition. There's a reason most people say to read books, watch movies, play games, in release order rather then chronological timeline order. Prequels are inherently meant to be read after whatever it is a prequel to. You have more context, more detail, and can pick up on much more that way.The nail in the coffin for the books may have been the reaction to the end of the show. We know that at the very least Bran becoming king is something GRRM indicated to the show writers, and other things like Daenerys burning King’s Landing are probably stuff he would include in the books.
It makes much more sense to watch GOT first. I think the nice thing about watching GoT first is that watching HotD you recognize names and can connect the shows this way. Even throw away lines have presence. You don't need to have seen GoT first, but GoT will be ruined if you watch HotD first. . 224 162 399 362 67 200 105 345 281
